Large Open Face Booths
An open face booth is a three-sided enclosure with an open front and an exhaust wall at the rear. Air is drawn in across the open face, over the work, and out through exhaust filters. Because there is no front wall or door, loading is unrestricted — you can drive equipment in, use an overhead crane, or finish parts far too large to fit through a conventional booth opening.
That openness is the tradeoff. You get lower cost, easy access, and real flexibility for oversized work, but less containment than a fully enclosed booth and more sensitivity to drafts moving through the surrounding shop.

Large Open Face Booths
Open face booths still need engineered airflow. Face velocity has to be high enough to capture overspray across the entire opening, including at the edges where capture is naturally weakest. Booth width, ceiling height, and exhaust fan sizing are interdependent decisions, not separate ones.
The surrounding shop also needs enough makeup air to feed the booth without pulling the building into negative pressure. NFPA 33 and local air district requirements apply here exactly as they do with enclosed booths.
